November 29, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Keeping water clean is a big business, and one of the biggest IPOs this year has been a water treatment equipment company based in China. Specialized commodities such as water are giving Wall Street and related exchange traded funds (ETFs)  something to ponder.

Water has become the most valuable resource of the 21st century. Its value touches down upon all socioeconomic aspects of civilization and is used in nearly every industry. The recent success of Douyun Global Water (DGW) in … [visit site to read more]

Dubai Illustrates That Shariah Compliant Bonds May Be Junk Bonds
November 29, 2009 at 9:01 pm

Shariah compliant bonds skirt the Islamic dictum that no interest is to be received from loaning money by linking bonds to an underlying asset, say, real estate, that throws off income. This arms-length strategy is designed to permit Islamic investors to receive money on their investment that is not technically interest.

Recently, as pointed out in the Financial Times, there has been growing concern about whether these bonds, called sukuks, are the conservative investment vehicles they … [visit site to read more]

Stock Investor Sentiment: Waiting For The "R" Word
November 29, 2009 at 8:01 pm

As expected, last week’s holiday infested market action provided little clarity. The sentiment picture remains relatively unchanged. Nonetheless, there was a market moving event, and the “default in Dubai” will likely leave investors with one of two conclusions: 1) coordinated efforts by central bankers to re-liquify the world economy are likely to continue as bad news means good news -the proverbial punch bowl will be with us for awhile; or 2) the house of cards -otherwise known as the … [visit site to read more]

3 Reasons To Watch Real Estate ETFs
November 29, 2009 at 7:02 pm

Although the housing sector and the exchange traded funds (ETFs) witnessed a minor setback last week, things are looking better this week as home sales rise to a two-and-a-half year high.

Many have suggested that the drop in housing starts in October was caused by the expiration of the first-time homebuyer tax credit, which was recently extended by policymakers. This week, it was announced that home sales rose 10% in October from September, thanks to a rush of buyers looking to take … [visit site to read more]

Utility ETF Set To Benefit From Economic Climate
November 29, 2009 at 7:01 pm

In his most recent commentary, PIMCO’s Bill Gross provides his rationale to invest in utility stocks.

Gross suggests that the Federal Reserve will remain accommodative for a very long time:
“Raise interest rates with 15 million jobless and 25 million part-time working Americans? All because gold is above $1,100? You must be joking or smoking - something. We will need another 12 months of 4-5% nominal GDP growth before Bernanke and company dare lift their heads out of the 0% foxhole - … [visit site to read more]

November 29, 2009 at 3:46 am

Saturday’s Wall Street Journal opinion piece from Joe Queenan takes a humorous look at this holiday season’s retail sales. It’s refreshing, entertaining, and a little bit insightful. Also included below is a link to the Black Friday shopping chaos in a slideshow format.

LDK Solar (LDK) has come down a bit here in recent days. It appears that the correction may be close to an end since it is approaching of its main support at $7.19. This may be a good spot to get in, with a stop under the recent lows if the timing is wrong. If the weakness continues and the stock breaks the support at $7.19, there will be a good chance that the stock will test the $6.68 support.
